A significant development in the MENA fintech scene is the recent investment by MNT Investments B.V., the Dutch parent company of Egyptian fintech MNT-Halan. The company has invested more than $71 million in MNT Tech Holding, thereby increasing its stake to 80%. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the company's expansion plans and financial stability.
The investment saw MNT Investments B.V. purchase around 163 million new shares at a price of EGP 24.5 per share. As a result, MNT Tech Holding's issued capital increased from EGP 160 million to EGP 176.3 million, with the total number of shares now standing at 1.76 billion. This transaction demonstrates the company's commitment to growth and development in the region.
What the Investment Means for MNT-Halan
According to Mounir Nakhla, Founder and CEO of MNT-Halan, the funding will be utilized to support the company's expansion in Egypt, strengthen the balance sheet, and increase lending activity. The company is also exploring opportunities in other countries, including Turkey, and is anticipating an acquisition in an Arab country. This expansion plan is a testament to the company's confidence in the MENA market.
The capital increase follows the successful IPO on the Egyptian Exchange, which generated $144 million in funding through the sale of a 20% stake in the company. The offering attracted a significant amount of interest from investors, with over 300 investors from 10 countries participating. The stock performed well on its first trading day, rising by 18% amid high demand worth $2.3 billion. This IPO has provided MNT-Halan with the necessary funds to pursue its growth strategy.
MNT-Halan's Performance
As of mid-2026, MNT-Halan's platform had served approximately 7.9 million customers and provided more than EGP 178 billion in financing. This demonstrates the company's ability to provide financial services to a large customer base and highlights its potential for further growth. With the recent investment, MNT-Halan is well-positioned to continue its expansion in the MENA region.
Regulatory Approval
The transaction is currently pending approval from the relevant regulatory authorities, including the Financial Regulatory Authority in Egypt, the Egyptian Exchange, and Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry. Once approved, the investment will be finalized, and MNT-Halan can proceed with its plans for expansion and growth. The company's commitment to regulatory compliance is a key aspect of its operations.
