A new partnership between LuLu Financial Holdings and Purpleplum aims to transform the banking experience for small and medium-sized enterprises in the UAE. The collaboration will see Purpleplum's core-agnostic orchestration platform power LuLu Money Business, a dedicated financial proposition for SMEs and enterprises. This development is significant because SMEs represent nearly 95 per cent of all businesses in the UAE, generating 63 per cent of national GDP.
The partnership will integrate various banking and payment services into a single interface, making it easier for businesses to manage their finances. Digital business accounts will be issued in partnership with ruya, an Islamic digital bank licensed by the Central Bank of the UAE. These accounts will provide fully regulated corporate banking infrastructure, enabling businesses to access a range of financial services.
The initial phase of the rollout will establish a comprehensive digital banking suite for SMEs, featuring Agentic AI Onboarding, which uses autonomous AI workflows to manage digital account opening. This will be combined with Payroll & Compliance Rails, which integrate the UAE's Wages Protection System and automated salary administration. Additionally, the suite will include Commercial Payments & Cards, which provide consolidated payment tools, corporate expense cards, and global remittances.
Purpleplum's platform has already demonstrated its capabilities, supporting 1.1 million active users and clearing more than 520 million transactions. The company's modular technology allows financial institutions to deploy digital banking, Banking-as-a-Service, and embedded finance without disrupting their existing infrastructure. This flexibility will enable LuLu Financial Holdings to introduce new capabilities over time and deepen its financial relationships with businesses.
According to Adeeb Ahamed, managing director of LuLu Financial Holdings, the partnership with Purpleplum will enable the company to modernize its financial services and unlock greater value from established financial rails. Ahamed stated,
“With LuLu Money Business, our focus is on making everyday financial services simpler, more connected and easier to manage for SMEs,”. The company plans to expand the LuLu Money Business proposition across the GCC, India, and APAC, with future iterations incorporating additional financial services.
Purpleplum's regional strategy involves establishing the UAE as its operating base over the next 12 to 24 months, with a focus on expanding local partnerships and deploying AI-native workflows. The company aims to be a long-term technology and infrastructure partner for regional banks, fintechs, and enterprises looking to build, launch, and scale modern financial products faster. Kalyan Karteek Sadasivuni, co-founder and managing director of Purpleplum, noted that the Middle East is rapidly redefining the future of digital banking, driven by progressive regulation and a strong appetite for technological advancement.
The partnership between LuLu Financial Holdings and Purpleplum is expected to have a significant impact on the UAE's SME sector, which plays a crucial role in the country's economy. By providing businesses with access to a range of financial services and tools, the partnership will help to support their growth and development. As the UAE continues to evolve as a major financial hub, collaborations like this one will be essential in driving innovation and progress in the region's banking sector.
In terms of the platform's architecture, it has been engineered for international scalability, allowing LuLu Financial Holdings to expand its services across multiple countries. The company's physical and digital channels already operate across more than ten countries in the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, and the Asia-Pacific region. By leveraging Purpleplum's technology, LuLu Financial Holdings will be able to further enhance its services and provide businesses with a more seamless and integrated banking experience.
The integration of Purpleplum's platform with LuLu Financial Holdings' existing infrastructure will enable the company to offer a more comprehensive range of financial services to businesses. This will include services such as working capital lending, trade financing, receivables management, and automated treasury services. By providing businesses with access to these services, LuLu Financial Holdings will be able to help them manage their finances more effectively and support their growth and development.
